A Brief History of Halloween at Disneyland
The tradition of special event Halloween parties at the Disneyland Resort surprisingly did not begin until 1995 with Mickey's Halloween Treat. It was held at Disneyland because it was the only Park at the time.
The party featured merchandise, trick or treat locations, hoot locations, a kids costume cavalcade, and character meet and greets. Most Disneyland attractions were also opened for party guests to enjoy.
The event was held again in 1996, and discontinued due to low attendance. The party returned in a different format and name in 2005 and held at the then-Disney's California Adventure Park.
The Evolution of Mickey's Halloween Party
'Mickey's Halloween Party' quickly became a guest favorite due to the family-friendly theme of the party, unlike many other Halloween themed events at other Southern California theme parks.
The event included several popular features:
- Trick or treat stations throughout the park
- Character meet and greets with Disney favorites
- Special character cavalcades
- Costume-friendly atmosphere for all guests
Guests were encouraged to come to the parties in costume, which definitely added to the fun and created a truly immersive Halloween experience!

Jack Skellington, the beloved Pumpkin King from Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas," spares no expense in his yearly decorating of the cherished Haunted Mansion. This seasonal overlay has become one of the most popular attractions during the Halloween season.
3. Guardians of the Galaxy - Monsters After Dark
The California Adventure Tower of Terror (recently transformed into a Guardians of the Galaxy themed experience) hosts a special Halloween themed evening for all visiting guests!
Do you have what it takes to save Groot from crazed creatures on the loose? Amid the chaos of the Guardians of the Galaxy's rescue attempt, Groot got left behind.
Even worse, the Collector's Fortress is now mired in a total state of emergency—and overrun with menacing beasts. Your objective? Team up with Rocket to return to the fortress, distract the monsters and escape with his little buddy in tow—but proceed with caution.
