  • In 1936, Bandon was almost completely wiped out by a violent wildfire. The fire was particularly fierce because of the highly flammable, naturally growing gorse plants brought over from Ireland by the town’s founder.
  • What started as a man’s personal meditation practice has become a public performance art piece. Local artist Denny Dyke creates massive and intricate sand labyrinths along Bandon’s beaches, a project called Circles in the Sand.

The state of Oregon is currently (3/16/21) following a framework that assesses Covid restrictions depending on the number of Covid-19 cases in each county. As it now stands, Coos County is rated “Extreme.”

We tried to think of something more inspiring and picturesque than a horseback ride on the beach at sunset and simply could not do it. We are thrilled to share that this dreamlike adventure is one of the many experiences to discovered in Bandon. Bandon Beach Riding Stables offers hour-long rides throughout the day, consisting of short 10-minute trail walks before reaching the shoreline and finishing the ride along the oceanfront. For those lucky enough to snag a reservation, the last ride of the day (starting at 6 pm) is an hour and a half long and includes breathtaking views of the sea at sunset. If this destination wasn’t on your bucket list before, it certainly should be now!

Washed Ashore Gallery & Workshop 

Washed Ashore Gallery & Workshop is one of the most unique and influential art galleries found anywhere in the world. When the love of art meets the will to improve the world, magic happens. This impactful gallery turned non-profit organization creates aesthetically powerful works of art comprised entirely of discarded plastic pulled out of the sea. For those looking for an authentic taste of Bandon, look no further than Tony’s Crab Shack. This tackle shop turned famous restaurant prides itself on serving its customers only the freshest seafood, an easily accomplished task as Tony’s Crab Shack is located right on the ocean! If you catch a table at the right time, you may even be served by the owner, Tony himself. Tony bought the tackle shop 15 years ago and began steaming crabs for tourists. The Crab Shack became such a popular spot for succulent seafood that the shack evolved into a fully functional restaurant. Tony’s Crab Shack’s crab sandwich is now famously sought after, and items such as smoked salmon alfredo and fresh oysters on the half shell are enough to get any appetite going. Recommended on Restaurant Guru in 2019, this local treasure is a must-see on your beach-bound road trip.
